The Maine Alliance for Road Associations (MARA) presents: The Maine Private Road Association Conference
Date & Location: Saturday, October 3, 2020, 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Maple Hill Farm Inn and Conference Center, 11 Inn Road, Hallowell, Maine 04347 & Virtual (Zoom)
Conference Workshops:
“Repairing and Maintaining Gravel Roads for Water Quality”: by John Maclaine, Source Training Center Coordinator. He will present ways to maintain and repair gravel roads. Some of Non-Point the topics include; drainage, ditches, crowns, culverts, issues of storm damage and washouts, and how maintaining gravel roads helps to protect our waterbodies.
“Legal Aspects of Administrative Operations”: by Attorneys Mary Denison of Lake & Denison, Winthrop, Maine, and John Cunningham of Eaton & Peabody, Brunswick, Maine. They will present on topics related to the Private Ways Statutes, 23 MRSA §3101-3106 including documentation, notice of claim forms, filing with small claims court, tracking property ownership and dealing with damage by developers or land owners. Ample time will be provided for questions and answers.
“Encouraging Member Participation” by Roberta Manter, MARA Board Member and Legislative Liaison, and founder of Maine ROADWays (Residents & Owners on Abandoned & Discontinued Ways.) She will facilitate a discussion and brainstorming session on various ways to increase attendance at annual meetings and encourage members to be actively involved in their road associations.

Safety for attendees at Maple Hill Farm Conference Center is paramount.
Maple Hill ownership and MARA leaders are committed to current safe practices. We will be following Maine CDC Guidelines for masks, hand sanitizer, and spacing at Event check-in, while seated in conference, and while at break for morning coffee and for your individually prepared boxed lunches. The Gathering Place, our large 1800 sq. ft. meeting room, has high ceilings, multiple patio doors, and excellent continuous ventilation for your safety and comfort. AV Portland will provide a professional virtual experience that will allow for ample presenter/audience interaction by both in-person and virtual attendees. Qualified attendees may also obtain recertification credit for Maine DEP Certification in Erosion Control Practices.

MARA members only: each $40.00 Guests (non-members): $45.00
Late registration for both Members and Guests is $50.00 after August 31, 2020.
No cancellations or refunds after August 31, 2020, except that due to the degree of uncertainty surrounding the course of the COVID-19 pandemic and its potential effects on event registration, we must reserve the option to cancel the conference up until Wednesday September 23, 2020. If it becomes necessary to cancel the event, all registration fees will be promptly returned.
