About The Event
As a nationally accredited land trust, 7 Lakes Alliance conservation efforts provide habitat for wildlife, including moose. We are pleased to host an informational session with Lee Kantar, Maine’s moose biologist. Lee Kantar was awarded the Distinguished Moose Biologist Award by his peers in recognition of his outstanding contributions to moose management. Recipients include those from many countries, including Canada, Finland. Sweden, Norway and the U.S. Lee will discuss how Maine’s moose are losing the fight against winter ticks at an alarming rate and how climate change is likely giving these teeny parasites a growing advantage over this beloved animal. He will answer questions about current efforts to cull the moose herd in Maine in response to the growing tick population and give an update on the state of Moose in Maine. Join us on Thursday, July 7 at 4:30 pm to learn about the many challenges facing an iconic part of our landscape.
