Mission

Conserving the lands and waters of the Belgrade Lakes Region for all.

Our challenge

Ours is both an immediate challenge to our watershed and a need to balance conservation, protection and the needs of all who live and work in the region.

To meet this challenge, in late December 2017, the Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance and the Maine Lakes Resource Center combined forces to create 7 Lakes Alliance.

Together with our scientific research
partner Colby College, 7 Lakes Alliance
is committed to a mission of conserving the lands
and waters of the Belgrade Lakes Region for all.

Vision

7 Lakes Alliance will support land and water conservation in the Belgrade Lakes Region by engaging with the whole community to achieve clean water, well stewarded lands, and a vibrant economy.  Our work will combine contemporary scientific knowledge, respect for the area’s natural heritage and local traditions, inclusive priority setting and collaborative problem solving, with ongoing dialogue and widespread resource sharing to create a culture of conservation that serves us all.

Values

To accomplish this 7 Lakes Alliance commits to:

  • Being inclusive of everyone in our community.

  • Respecting and considering the wide variety of economic realities and cultural values held by the people who live, work, and recreate in the Belgrade Lakes Region.

  • Offering programs, resources, and services that bring unique value.

  • Encouraging voluntary collaboration and partnership.

  • Working together to develop conservation plans, priorities, and solutions.

  • Treating individuals and colleague organizations with fairness and honesty

  • Being generous with resources.

  • Supporting advanced research and data collection.

  • Informing our work with ground-breaking science and academic expertise.

  • Creating and sharing innovative solutions to conservation challenges.

  • Producing and widely distributing relevant, and easy to follow conservation guides to help people become good stewards of our natural resources.

  • Developing communications, donor engagement, and fundraising strategies that:

    • Celebrate and honor a wide variety of directed giving preferences

    • Inspire confidence among our conservation colleagues and donors

    • Create long-term financial support for all conservation activities in the watershed.
